OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University (former HiOA) is Norway’s third largest university, with more than 20,000 students and over 2000 employees. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 3.000 students and 280 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Akershus.

Department of Product Design offers offers bachelor’s degree programme and master’s degree programme in product design in addition to research and development activities.

In the Department of Product Design, Faculty of Technology, Art and Design, a position as a PhD research fellow is currently available.

The PhD Fellowship will be part of a project collaboration between the research groups Design, Culture and Sustainability at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design, Department of Product design, and research groups at the Faculty of Health Sciences , possibly the research group: Aging, Health and Welfare and Nursing Science.

The fellowship will be for a period of three years, alternatively, four years including 25% compulsory work (teaching and supervision at BSc and MSc level) at the Department of Product Design.

Area of research

The successful candidate for this position will focus on one or more of the following areas: developing and evaluating tangible applications within the health sector, including service design, personalized medicine, Sustainable and evidence-based health and care systems; Innovative health and care delivery systems, Digital transformation in Health and Care.

The candidate will work closely with researchers at the Faculty of Health Sciences and may be involved in relevant activities connected to OCAD University in Toronto, Canada.



  • Master’s degree in design (120 ECTS) preferable with knowledge about Health science issues or Master’s degree in Health Science with knowledge or experience in design.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and one of the Nordic languages.


The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme in Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences at the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences. http://www.hioa.no/eng/Studies/HF/Ph.d/Application-and-admission. Successful enrolment into the PhD program in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences is required before entering the PhD position.


Desired skills and experience

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, plan, dimension and direct own work
  • Able and willing to exploit possibilities for innovation and creativity as they arise
  • Experience with publishing research results, preferably in international peer-reviewed conferences/journals.
  • Experience in working with health issues and knowledge of the Norwegian health system will be beneficial for this work.

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017 (wage scale 50 – 54 /NOK 436 500 – 466 100).
