Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA) is Norway’s largest state University College, with approximately 18000 students and 2000 employees. We conduct research in areas that are important for welfare and value creation, for instance health, education, social sciences, technology and design. Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

Oslo Business School has approximately 900 students and 40 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level.

Job description

Oslo Business Schoolis expanding and looking for two excellent economists holding a doctoral degree to hire as associate professors.  The positions are divided between research, teaching and supervision of students.  The persons must be able to teach at both bachelor and master levels, ideally in both English and a Scandinavian language.  It is important that the persons contribute to the School’s research and teaching development through active participation in our academic environment.

Qualifications

The ranking of qualified applicants is based on scientific merits, but teaching experience is also important together with personal qualities and suitability for the position.  We only consider recent publications (last five years) and the potential for future publications of high quality research in applied economics. The person we hire should fit the profile of our bachelor and master programs. 

Applicants must

  • hold a PhD in economics
  • have published in recognized international journals and/or document your potential for future publications
  • have good teaching skills

General criteria for appointment of a position as Associate Professor are stipulated in Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions § 1-2, see details in Norwegian.

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete HiOA’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

After a preliminary screening process, qualified applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The business school will test pedagogical skills in connection with a personal interview.

Other information

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1011 Associate Professor wage scale NOK 516 000 – 648 100 per year. A higher salary may be considered for specially qualified candidates.  Associate professors may apply for promotion to a professorship once they have started in their position. Professor wage scale NOK 686 900 – 882 900 per year.
