OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University (former HiOA) is Norway’s third largest university, with more than 20,000 students and over 2000 employees. We conduct research in areas that are important for welfare and value creation, for instance health, education, social sciences, technology and design. OsloMet has an academic stimulating environment with a variety of welfare schemes. 

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 3200 students and nearly 240 members of staff.

Oslo Business School has approximately 900 students and 40 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level.

Job description

Oslo Business School is expanding and looking for at least two financial economists holing a doctoral degree in finance or accounting/auditing. The persons appointed will contribute to the further development of Oslo Business School’s research and teaching in the main areas of Finance and Accounting/Auditing. The position covers research, teaching and supervision of students.  The person must be able to teach at both bachelor and master levels, ideally in both English and a Scandinavian language. It is important that the persons contribute to the School’s research and teaching development through active participation in our academic environment.

The ranking of qualified applicants is based on scientific merits, but teaching experience is also important together with personal qualities and suitability for the position.  We only consider recent publications (last five years) and the potential for future publications of high quality research. The person we hire should fit the profile of our bachelor and master programs, and must be able to contribute to the School’s long-term academic development.

Applicants must:

  • hold a PhD in financial economics or accounting/auditing
  • have published in recognized international journals and/or document your potential for future publications
  • have good teaching skills

The general criteria for appointment of a position as Associate Professor are stipulated in Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions, see details in Norwegian.

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete HiOA’s program for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

After a preliminary screening process, qualified applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The business school will test pedagogical skills in connection with a personal interview.

Other information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees: job code 1011 Associate professor wage scale NOK 516 000 – 648 100. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants. Associate professors may apply for promotion to a professorship once they have started in their position. Professor wage scale NOK 686 900 – 882 900 per year.
