OsloMet-Oslo Metropolitan University (former HiOA) is Norway’s third largest university, with more than 20,000 students and over 2000 employees. We conduct research in areas that are important for welfare and value creation, for instance health, education, social sciences, technology and design. OsloMet has an academic stimulating environment with a variety of welfare schemes. 

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 3200 students and nearly 240 members of staff.

The department has approximately 1250 students and 90 employees, and offers study programmes on bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level.

There is a vacancy for the position of associate professor of social work at the Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy. The position is affiliated to the master’s programmes in applied social sciences, but will include duties at bachelor’s and PhD level in the department.

Main duties of the position include:

  • teaching social work
  • teaching social science subjects
  • supervision of students
  • social work research in the department’s subject areas
  • educational development work
  • academic administrative tasks

Applicants must have:

  • a PhD, preferably in social work and social policy. The requirement for a PhD degree can also be met by qualifications of an equivalent level, documented by scientific work of the same scope and quality
  • research and/or work experience relevant to social work
  • good oral and written communication skills in Norwegian and English

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language on appointment, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

Applicants should:

  • preferably have basic education in social work
  • possess a good ability to motivate and inspire students
  • be able to develop research projects relevant to the department
  • have proficiency in coordinating both academic and administrative tasks
  • have the ability to work independently
  • have the ability to cooperate across disciplinary boundaries
  • have great enthusiasm for and a genuine interest in the subject area

If you do not have relevant teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete the university college's basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within two years.

The general criteria for appointments to positions as associate professor are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

The university college tests teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

Other information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees: 1011 associate professor, NOK 517,700-650,200. A statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
