OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University (former HiOA) is Norway’s third largest university, with more than 20,000 students and over 2000 employees. We conduct research in areas that are important for welfare and value creation, for instance health, education, social sciences, technology and design. OsloMet has an academic stimulating environment with a variety of welfare schemes. 

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 3.000 students and 280 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Akershus.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes and a master’s degree programme, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 70 staff members and 800 students.

There are currently several research groups at the Computer Science Department.

The faculty aims to establish a PhD program in Engineering Science, and a new multi-disciplinary Master’s program. This is in conjunction with the establishment of a research and development collaboration between OsloMet and the Simula Research Laboratory.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a permanent position as Professor in Computer Science specializing in real-world challenges in distributed multimedia systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 80 % of full time at SimulaMet.

We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for teaching, research and innovation. Candidates will be expected to have conducted extensive research in the field of distributed multimedia systems and related areas such as operating systems, communication systems, distributed systems and performance optimizations for complete multimedia pipelines. The research should be reflected in an extensive publication list and high impact.

Candidates will be expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic and research work at the department and the university's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts Design and with other faculties at OsloMet.

The candidate will be responsible for securing external funding. Experience with applying for NFR and EU funding is a requirement.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Leading the application of external funding for research in distributed multimedia systems and related fields.
  • Initiating and conducting research within distributed multimedia systems and related fields.
  • Planning, developing and delivering courses at PhD, Master and Bachelor level, including teaching, supervision, and assessment.
  • Actively contributing to the development of high-quality education.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the department and the rest of OsloMet.
  • Communicating and disseminating research results for both academic and lay audiences.
  • Performing administrative tasks related to educational, research and innovation activities.

Qualifications

The required qualifications for the positions are as follows:

  • PhD in computer science/informatics
  • documented research work and publications within the field of distributed multimedia systems – also addressing real-world challenges
  • experience of initiating and managing research projects, including a solid track record of securing external funding for research
  • experience from international research collaboration
  • experience in teaching and supervision in higher education
  • experience from collaborating with industry
  • documented strong leadership experience from excellent research groups
  • Fluency in English is expected. The candidate is expected to acquire a working command of Norwegian within three years of being appointed.

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete OsloMet’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

Trial lecture will be required in connection with a personal interview.

Remuneration

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1013 Professor NOK 695 500-893 900. A higher salary may be considered for specially qualified candidates. By law 2% of the salary is deducted as to the State Pension Fund.
